OLYMPIC WOMEN'S BASKETBALL TEAM ______________________________ WHEREAS, Venus Lacy is a native of Chattanooga and the daughter of Scott and Dorothy Lacy; and WHEREAS, she graduated from Brainerd High School in 1985 and was a member of Brainerd High School's 1984 Women's State Championship basketball team; and WHEREAS, Ms. Lacy continued her educational and athletic endeavors at Louisiana Tech University where she was a member of Louisiana Tech University's National Championship basketball team in 1988, was named Louisiana Tech University's Most Valuable Player and Team Captain for the Year of 1990 and lead the team to an undefeated regular season record and a #1 ranking in the national polls; and WHEREAS, Ms. Lacy was a consensus All-American and women's college basketball Player of the Year for 1990; and WHEREAS, Ms. Lacy has pursued a professional basketball career in the European Professional Women's Basketball League from 1990 until the present; and WHEREAS, Ms. Lacy has fulfilled the Olympic dream (based on her talent, dedication and hard work) as a member of the United States of America Olympic Women's Basketball Team for 0C the 1996 Summer Olympics held in Atlanta, Georgia; and WHEREAS, Ms. Lacy has been recognized in the international basketball community for her tenacity and intensity in performing as a member of the United States of America's Olympic Women's Basketball Team; and WHEREAS, Ms. Lacy's accomplishments and successes are an inspiration to all residents of our community; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHATTANOOGA, TENNESSEE, that Venus Lacy be and is hereby recognized and honored for her exemplary performance on the United States Olympic Women's Basketball Team.
